I shoot quite a bit of video on my 5D Mark2. The biggest issue I had was figuring out a ‘run & gun’ solution where I could record audio & video at the same time. The on-board audio on the 5dmark2 is crapporiffic at best. The solution; mount my Sennheiser wireless receiver to my 5D, then the kick butt Zoom H4n with Redhead windscreen to a Zacuto Rapid Fire. Problem solved. I like this solution because My hands have instant access to the record buttons, as well as the zoom & the focus. Essential for run & gun.
Run & Gun Solution
March 11, 2010 - 9:11 pm - Hi. I was looking for run and gun solution and end up here. Your set up looks great. I have 5dmkII,Zoom H4N,redhead,LCDVF and am considering now Zacto rapidfire for the same reason as you for portability and ergonomics. Could you tell me which is the extra part to allow to mount H4N on the rapidfire? Is there any economical solution or is it original Zacto part? I am going to mainly use the 24-105 f4IS. H4N at the position in your photo picks up a lot of camera handling noise and such? IS, hit record bottom etc...Thank you so much. Takashi Greeting from Lisbon, Portugal.
March 11, 2010 - 9:28 pm - There are 2 parts I had to buy (from Zacuto) to make this setup work. • Z-mount II for 15mm rods - $144 • ZUD 1/4 20 M - $44 THe 24-105 is a great lens for 'run&gun' Plenty of flexibility & the IS makes a HUGE difference in keeping a stable image. As far as noise is concerned...it can be an issue if you are not careful. I usually have the H4N set to record 4 channels- 2 on board and one of the other channels on a wireless Lav. Between that & the on-board I can usually find some usable audio. Good luck!
